Key Ally Pyra (Enc. 1) · Maguffin: Fillet of Unclaimed Victory · Helpers: one per player in Enc. 2 Phase 2

Description

This is the campaign’s last stand. Iris finds the Theronauts in Misthaven mist and opens a path into the root-forges of Mount Etna, where Nike — Victory herself — hangs in volcanic iron. Titan-kin jailers keep her silent so that no triumph can be declared against the storm sleeping below.

Freeing Nike is necessary. It is also the trigger: her chains share a lock-root with Typhon. When Victory’s wrists open, the Father of Monsters begins to snap the remainder of his bindings. Nike cannot strike him — no god may, this day — but she can still bless the party and blow the Horn of Allies, calling every debt the campaign has earned into Phase 2 of the final battle.

Each player chooses one helper row from the menu. On the battlefield they alternate: their PC acts on odd rounds of their turn-cycle; their helper acts on even rounds (see Helper Rules). Underpowered groups are already bundled into single units. Huge horrors may be flavored as Asclepius/Persephone resurrections or Morpheus shape-gifts.

"Wear the unfinished crown into the dark. When Victory breathes, the knot will hold — and the horn will answer."— Etched inside the Fillet of Unclaimed Victory

Stakes

  • If Typhon walks: storms unmake coasts; Olympian authority cracks; every prior victory in the campaign becomes a footnote to a new age of monsters.
  • If Nike stays chained: even a wounded Typhon cannot be cleanly rebound — triumph itself is imprisoned, and battles elsewhere tip toward despair.
  • If the Theronauts rebind him: Victory flies free; the campaign’s debts are called and honored; the age remains mortal and contestable.

Major Beats

  • Iris’s plea in the mist; Fillet given; descent into Etna’s root-forge.
  • Fight titan-kin; recruit Pyra; unmake Nike’s locks — Typhon’s Wake Clock starts.
  • Nike blesses the party; admits the shared chains; names the Horn.
  • Enc. 2 Phase 1: Typhon snapping chains — PCs alone against a half-bound titan.
  • Nike’s Horn: Phase 2 — each player’s helper arrives; Rebinding race under Storm Crown.
  • Epilogue: seals, farewells, Nike’s knot on the Fillet, campaign close.

Helpers (menu)1 row per playerEnc. 2 Phase 2

🕊 Helper Menu — Present to Players

When: After Nike is free (end of Enc. 1 / start of Enc. 2), show this table. Each player secretly or openly picks one row. No duplicates unless the DM allows stacked armies (e.g. two Amazon Wings).

Alternate-round control: On each player’s turn, they choose whether this turn is a PC turn or a helper turn, but they must alternate — they cannot take two PC turns in a row or two helper turns in a row. (Initiative: keep one initiative count per player; the active body acts on that count.)

Grouping: Army rows are already one unit with a shared HP pool (use the unit HP in the DM kit below). Huge solo helpers act as a single creature. Flavor resurrections / shape-shifts freely.

Nike’s blessing: While your helper is on the field, you and your helper have advantage on saves vs. Typhon’s frighten effects, and once per battle Nike can grant your helper immunity to Storm Crown for 1 round (her action).

HelperWho / how they arriveHow they play (player-facing)
Cerberus
Huge
Three-headed gate-hound (resurrected breath of Persephone, or a dream-shape from Morpheus).Tanky multi-bite controller. Grapple / knock prone; frighten with howls. Slow, hard to ignore. Alternate rounds: park him on Typhon’s forelimb and force saves.
Hecatoncheires (Briareus-echo)
Huge
Hundred-handed giant-echo (sunforge ghost / Asclepius-knit remnant — not the full mythic binding).Artillery brute: many weaker strikes or one crushing volley. Great vs. adds and chain-anchors. Feels like playing a siege engine.
Sphinx
Huge
Winged riddler-guardian loaned by Athena’s dream or a temple statue given breath.Skirmish caster: fly, claw, one roar/frighten, minor control spells. Plays like a battlefield controller who also punches.
Talos of Crete / Colossus of Rhodes
Huge
Bronze colossus (Hephaestus-spark or Rhodes’ dream-colossus walking).Siege tank: high AC, slam/hurl, object-breaker. Slow reposition. Ideal for holding a flank while PCs focus Typhon’s heads.
Roc (Gargantuan)
Huge
Mountain-bird raised from death-sleep by Persephone’s leave, or Morpheus-wing.Mobile artillery: snatch, drop, buffet. Controls vertical space. Fragile vs. focused fire — hit-and-run, don’t stand still.
Kreon, Spellcasting Minotaur
Huge*
Labyrinth archmage in minotaur shape (*Large; counts as ‘huge threat’ for balance).Full-caster hybrid: blast, wall, counterspell-lite. Plays like a wizard with a gore attack — glassier than Talos.
Knight Minotaur + Cyclops duo
Huge group
Armored labyrinth champion paired with two war-cyclopes (one player controls the trio as a unit).Melee wedge: knight locks, cyclopes smash. Simple, reliable damage and shoves. Good for players who want ‘charge and hit.’
Lernaean Hydra
Huge
Resurrected coil (Asclepius) or dream-hydra — heads matter; fire still cauterizes.Multiattack machine. Manage heads; cauterize if Typhon’s fire severs them. High damage, messy positioning.
Euryale (or Medusa)
Huge*
Gorgon sister (*Large). Stone-gaze weaponized carefully — allies warn before looking.Debuff queen: gaze (avert / mirror rules), bow, snake-hair. Plays like a control sniper; coordinate so PCs don’t get petrified.
Echidna (Bound Aspect)
Huge
Mother of Monsters in a leash-aspect — not full lair power; Persephone’s bargain holds her to one battle.Boss-lite: constrict, poison, call 1–2 small brood once. Extremely strong — treat as a ‘take if your table wants spectacle.’
Chariot of Apollo (with driver-shade)
Huge
Sun-chariot called for one flight; a shade of Phaethon’s better choice holds the reins.Mobile platform + radiant strafing. Carry 1–2 PCs; burn Typhon’s storm-clouds. High risk if the chariot is struck.
Pandora
Human-sized
The first woman — jar sealed, hope kept. She opens only what the battle needs.Support face: once-per-battle jar tricks (heal surge, condition cleanse, or brief enemy dread). Soft control + clutch buffs.
Orpheus
Human-sized
The singer who moved the dead — lyre ready.Battlefield bard: charm/frighten Typhon’s lesser manifestations, grant temp HP, interrupt a legendary roar with a counter-song.
Heracles
Human-sized
The demigod himself — mortal-strong, present as ally, not boss.Premier striker: club/bow, legendary-feel multiattack, athletics monster. Simple for the player: move, hit hard, smash a chain.
Leonidas
Human-sized
King of the Hot Gates — shield and spear.Defensive captain: mark a foe, grant allies AC, stand immovable. Plays like a banner-paladin without the spells.
Atalanta
Human-sized
Peerless huntress.Mobile archer: sharpshoot, trip, mark quarry. Excels at sniping Typhon’s eyes/hands while staying clear.
Achilles
Human-sized
Best of the Achaeans — heel as the only fear.Glass cannon duelist: highest single-target damage, resistance to most blows until heel is targeted (Typhon may learn…).
Bellerophon on Pegasus (or Griffin)
Human-sized*
Rider + mount as one helper unit.Aerial lancer: fly-by gore/lance, reposition allies’ bombs. Plays like a flying skirmisher; mount can Dash.
Satyr Revel-Band (unit)
Army
6–8 satyrs as one unit (pipes, spears, chaos).Harass & debuff: short rests of mirth (remove frighten), pack attacks, board-control. Low HP pool; high annoyance.
Leonin Pride (unit)
Army
5–6 leonin warriors as one unit.Melee pack: pounce, pack tactics, roar. Reliable mid-damage; good for pinning a Typhon limb.
Centaur Lance (unit)
Army
4–5 centaurs as one unit.Hit-and-run cavalry: charge, kiting, bows. Control the outer ring of the crater.
Minotaur Phalanx (unit)
Army
4 minotaur hoplites as one unit.Heavy infantry: greataxes, reckless, hold a gate. Simple and brutal.
Cyclopean Levy (unit)
Army
5 human-scale cyclopeans as one unit.Throwers & brutes: rocks, axes, siege assist. Mid durability; strong vs. terrain/chains.
Amazon Wing (unit)
Army
6 Amazons + 1 captain as one unit.Disciplined skirmishers: spears/bows, phalanx step, focus-fire. High coordination ceiling.
Spartan Hoplites (unit)
Army
8 Spartan hoplites as one unit (Leonidas may stack if another player took him).Shield wall: high AC formation, spears, Hold the Line reaction. Best pure defense helper.

DM — rough unit kits (keep handy)

  • Huge strikers (Cerberus, Hydra, Knight+Cyclopes, Roc): AC 16–18 · HP 180–220 · +9 to +12 to hit · 2–3 attacks or 1 big attack · one recharge frighten/control.
  • Huge control (Sphinx, Euryale, Kreon, Chariot): AC 15–17 · HP 140–180 · spells/DC 16–18 · lower raw damage, higher battlefield impact.
  • Super-heavy (Hecatoncheires, Talos, Echidna): AC 18–20 · HP 240–280 · siege damage · limit multiattack so they don’t erase Typhon solo — aim ~40–55 DPR.
  • Human legends (Heracles, Achilles, Atalanta, Leonidas, Bellerophon, Orpheus, Pandora): AC 16–19 · HP 120–160 · feel like high-level NPCs; Heracles/Achilles top damage; Orpheus/Pandora support; Leonidas defense; Bellerophon mobility.
  • Army units: shared pool AC 15–17 · HP 140–170 · 3–4 attack rolls per helper turn at +7 to +9 · one unit ability (wall / pounce / volley).
  • Balance lever: if a helper trivializes Typhon, spend Typhon’s legendary actions on that helper; if a helper feels weak, let Nike grant one free heal (20 HP) mid-Phase 2.

Encounter 1 — The Root-Forge: Free Nike

Hard · ~90–110 min · Mount Etna depths

Overview

Iris’s rainbow hardens into a tunnel of heat. The party emerges on a slag bridge above a forge-pit where Nike hangs winged and chained. Captain Orthos and his Chain-Guards will not let Victory leave — triumph would name Typhon’s defeat before it happens.

🗺 Terrain

Root-forge cavern · 100×80 ft · slag bridge (difficult terrain if damaged) · three chain-lock consoles (N/E/W of Nike) · lava channels (5 fire on enter, DC 14 Dex) · cage-pens of sleeping slag-hounds · exit shaft up (blocked until Nike is free).

Win / Wake

  • Win Enc. 1: Open all three true locks (Athletics, Arcana, or thieves’ tools DC 16; Fillet & Pyra help) and spend an action cutting Nike’s last shackle.
  • Typhon’s Wake Clock: Starts at 0 when the first true lock opens. +1 when a lock opens, +1 if Orthos dies on Last Order, +1 each time a PC is dropped to 0 HP. At 4, Typhon’s roar collapses a bridge section (difficult terrain + 2 slag-hounds). Enc. 2 begins when Nike is free regardless of Clock — but Clock ≥3 means Typhon starts Phase 1 with one anchor already cracked.
  • Skill / stealth path: With Pyra, the party may attempt a 6-success / 3-failure lockrun (DC 15) while two PCs distract Orthos socially or with a duel. Failures spawn hounds / alert guards — combat resumes mid-puzzle.

Mechanics

  • As written: Orthos + 3 Chain-Guards + 4 Slag-Hounds (staged: hounds release in pairs).
  • RECRUITMENT: Spare Pyra or show the Fillet — she marks the false lock and joins.
  • Orthos’s false lock wastes actions until he is bloodied, deceived (Deception DC 18), or his spike-key is taken.
  • When Nike is freed: short narrative beat — she knots the Fillet on a willing PC’s brow, explains the shared root-chains, and prepares the Horn. Grant a short rest (10 min) as the mountain shakes into Enc. 2 — or press on if the Wake Clock is already screaming.
  • Nike’s Blessing (immediate): Each PC gains Victory’s Favor until end of session: once, turn a miss into a hit or reroll a failed save. Does not stack with itself.

Creature Cards

🏛

Nike, Goddess of Victory

Olympian · Small/Medium goddess · Cannot fight Typhon directly

Appearance: Winged, laurel-browed, chains of volcanic iron scoring her wrists until freed.

Motivation. She wants the Theronauts to win — not as pawns of Olympus, but as mortals who claimed victory when gods could not strike.

Secret. Her horn does not summon random aid; it wakes every debt the party’s campaign has earned — heroes, beasts, and armies who owe them a round.

Hard rule. She may bless, advise, and blow the Horn of Allies. She may not deal damage to Typhon or his spawn. If she is reduced to 0 HP (unlikely), she scatters into victory-omens and the Horn still sounds once.

False Lock. One of Nike’s visible locks is a decoy he controls. Until Orthos is bloodied or persuaded (DC 18), checks against that lock automatically fail.

Last Order. At 0 HP, he can use a reaction to slam a console — advancing Typhon’s Wake Clock by 1 (see Enc. 1).

Attack. Multiattack: two forge-hammers +10 to hit, 18 (3d8 + 5) bludgeoning plus 7 (2d6) fire. Or hurl slag +10 to hit, range 60 ft., 16 (2d10 + 5) bludgeoning.

Jailer’s Key. Carries a spike-key. A PC who takes one (action, contested Athletics) gains advantage on the next chain-lock check.

Etna-Hardened. Resistance to fire. Vulnerable to cold and radiant.

Attack. Multiattack: two volcanic mauls +7 to hit, 13 (2d8 + 4) bludgeoning plus 3 (1d6) fire.

Chain Lash (Recharge 5–6). 30-ft line, DC 15 Dex save or 18 (4d8) slashing and restrained by slag-chain (escape DC 15).

RECRUITMENT (Enc. 1). Spare her when the first titan-kin squad breaks, or show her the Fillet and swear Nike will fly free — she knows which locks are false.

Lock-Lore. Advantage on checks to open Nike’s bindings. Can spend an action to grant an ally advantage on the next chain check.

Volcanic Spear. +7 to hit, 11 (1d8 + 7) piercing plus 3 (1d6) fire.

Ward-Spike (1/rest). Place a spike: a 10-ft radius becomes difficult terrain for titan-kin until end of combat.

Fillet of Unclaimed Victory

Wondrous item, Nike’s half-woven laurel

Appearance: A thin gold-and-olive fillet that refuses to stay tied until Victory herself knots it.

Handout. "Wear the unfinished crown into the dark. When Victory breathes, the knot will hold — and the horn will answer."

Enc. 1–2. While worn: +1 to saving throws. Once in Enc. 1, when you succeed on a check to break Nike’s chain-locks, each ally within 30 ft. gains 10 temporary HP.

Enc. 3. In Enc. 2, after Nike’s blessing: once per Phase, as a reaction when you or your helper hits Typhon, deal +2d10 radiant and reduce one of Typhon’s legendary action uses by 1 until end of round (min 0).

👤

Iris, Storm-Herald

Olympian messenger (quest giver) · Neutral Good

Appearance: Rainbow-edged peplos, travel-stained; voice like wind over bronze.

Motivation. Hera and Zeus will not march into Etna — but Victory herself is chained in the mountain’s root, and Iris begs the Theronauts to cut her free before Typhon wakes fully.

Secret. Iris already knows freeing Nike will loosen Typhon’s remaining chains. She withholds that until the party is committed — or until the mountain screams.

Hard rule. No Olympian may fight Typhon directly this day. Nike’s aid must be blessing and horn — never spear in hand.

Encounter 2 — Typhon Unbound (Boss)

Hard (finale) · ~100–120 min · Phase 1 → Phase 2 helpers

Overview

The forge-floor splits. Below, Typhon heaves against the last volcanic chains — storm-heads, serpent coils, arms like siege towers. Nike takes wing to the crater rim: she will not strike; she will witness — and when the party is bloodied or the second anchor falls, she sounds the Horn.

🗺 Terrain

Collapsing caldera shelf · 120×120 ft fight zone · three glowing chain-anchors (AC 18, HP 60 each, immunity to psychic; vulnerable to thunder & siege) · storm-vents (DC 15 Str or pushed) · Nike’s rim (safe perch; she acts on initiative 20).

Phase 1 — Snapping Chains (PCs only)

  • Typhon: 2 legendary actions; breath at half dice; fly halved. Three anchors intact (or two if Wake Clock cracked one).
  • Goal: survive, learn his tells, break at least one anchor. Do not race all three yet unless the table is steamrolling.
  • If two PCs drop before any anchor falls, Nike sounds the Horn early (start Phase 2).
  • Otherwise Phase 2 begins when the second anchor is destroyed or after ~5–6 rounds, whichever comes first — Nike chooses the dramatic beat.

Phase 2 — The Horn of Allies

  • Nike blows the Horn. Each player’s chosen helper arrives in an unoccupied space within 60 ft. (flying helpers may arrive airborne).
  • Alternate-round helper rules engage immediately (see Helper Menu).
  • Typhon reaches 3 legendary actions; Storm Crown aura activates; breath at full dice.
  • Rebinding (win): Destroy all remaining anchors, then a PC wearing the Fillet (or Nike, as an action that costs her the rest of the fight’s mobility) must spend an action adjacent to Typhon’s central mass and succeed on a DC 18 Strength (Athletics) or Charisma (Persuasion/Performance) check — Victory naming the binding. Allies/helpers within 10 ft. may use the Help action. On success, chains of olive-gold light reweave; Typhon is sealed beneath Etna. On failure, retry next round; each failure deals 21 (6d6) lightning to the binder.
  • Fillet reaction payoff: once per Phase, +2d10 radiant on a hit and steal one legendary action use (see maguffin).
  • Do not celebrate a kill: 0 HP triggers Eruption (see Typhon card) — worse than binding.

Typhon, Father of Storms

Gargantuan Monstrosity (Titan) · CR 18* staged · Enc. 2 · Do not kill

Saving Throws: Str +15, Con +14, Wis +10, Cha +11 · *Staged for 6×L12 finale — not a raw MM dump.

Singular Icon — Do Not Kill. Win by completing the Rebinding (see Enc. 2), not by reducing Typhon to 0 HP. At 0 HP he instead erupts: each creature DC 20 Dex or 44 (8d10) fire/thunder, then he reforms at 100 HP and the Rebinding DC increases by 2. Prefer chains, seals, Nike’s knot, helper pressure.

Phase 1 — Snapping Chains. Three chain-anchors remain. Typhon has 2 legendary actions/round. Fly speed halved. Each destroyed anchor frees him further (+1 legendary action, max 3) but is required for Rebinding.

Phase 2 — Horn-Called War. When Nike sounds the Horn, helpers arrive. Typhon gains full legendary actions (3) and Storm Crown aura. Helpers may attack anchors and Typhon.

Storm Crown Aura. Phase 2: creatures of Typhon’s choice that start their turn within 20 ft. take 10 (3d6) lightning (DC 18 Dex half). Helpers can be designated immune by Nike’s blessing for 1 round (Nike’s action).

Many Heads, Many Arms. Has serpentine heads and storm-arms as narrative zones. Called shots to a head impose disadvantage on his next breath; called shots to an arm reduce shove distance that round.

Multiattack. Typhon makes three attacks: any mix of Slam, Serpent Bite, or Storm Bolt.

Slam. +15 to hit, reach 15 ft., 24 (3d10 + 8) bludgeoning. Huge or smaller: DC 20 Str save or prone.

Serpent Bite. +15 to hit, reach 20 ft., 18 (3d6 + 8) piercing plus 14 (4d6) poison.

Storm Bolt. +11 to hit, range 120 ft., 22 (4d10) lightning.

Cataclysm Breath (Recharge 5–6). 90-ft cone of fire and thunder. DC 22 Dex save: 49 (14d6) fire/thunder on a failed save, half on success. Phase 1: half damage dice (7d6).

Detect (1). Wisdom (Perception) check.

Tail/Arm (1). One Slam attack.

Wing Buffet (2). Each creature within 15 ft. DC 20 Str save or pushed 15 ft. and knocked prone.

Storm Step (2, Phase 2 only). Teleport up to 60 ft.; each creature adjacent to arrival DC 18 Dex or 14 (4d6) lightning.

🌅 Epilogue — Campaign Close

If Typhon is rebound

The caldera stills. Storm-heads sink like cooling iron. Nike alights, unfinished fillet now a true victor’s knot on the PC who bound him — or split into six olive leaves, one for each Theronaut.

  • Helpers depart: Give each player one farewell beat (one sentence). Armies salute and dissolve into mist; legends clasp forearms; resurrected beasts return to sleep or Persephone’s keep; dream-shapes peel back into Morpheus’s cloth.
  • Nike’s gift: Beyond the Fillet, she offers a campaign-level boon — choose one for the table: a sanctuary that cannot fall while they defend it; a ship that always finds Misthaven mist; or the right to call one helper row again, once, in a future tale.
  • Olympus: Iris returns with word that Zeus will not thank them publicly — pride forbids it — but every temple of Victory will know their names.
  • Quiet ending: Misthaven tavern. The mist tastes like rain after fire. Ask each player what their PC does with a world that still has tomorrow.

If the party fails

  • Typhon free: Coastlines rewrite overnight. End on Iris shielding the party into mist as the mountain crowns itself with a new storm-king. Sequel hook: gather the helpers again for a war of ages.
  • Nike still chained: Even a “win” against Typhon’s body fails to hold; seals slip. Escape with Pyra; Nike’s eyes ask them to return before triumph itself starves.
  • Bittersweet: Typhon rebound but a helper dies permanently (player consent). Nike plants a laurel on that grave; the campaign remembers the cost.

Optional epilogue scenes (pick 2–3)

  • Heracles (if called) admits he could not have done this alone — and means it.
  • Orpheus plays the mountain quiet; even slag-hounds sleep.
  • Leonidas / Spartans leave a shield on the rim: Molon labe carved for the next storm.
  • Pandora shows the jar still shut — hope was never the thing that escaped today.
  • Atalanta races the sunrise once around the caldera and laughs like the first hunt.
  • The Hecatoncheires-echo salutes with a hundred hands, then collapses back into sunforge dust.

⚖️ Difficulty Scaling

As Written ★ — 6 Players, Average Level 12

  • ~4-hour finale. Enc. 1 Hard jailbreak; Enc. 2 staged Typhon with helper Phase 2. Rebind win, not kill.

Library Standard — 6 Players, Average Level 8

  • Not recommended as a full Library Standard conversion — this is a capstone. If forced: Typhon HP 220, anchors HP 40, breath always half dice, helpers arrive at start of Enc. 2, Enc. 1 drop Orthos’s Last Order.

Easier

  • APL 10–11: fewer guards; Typhon 280 HP; anchors 45 HP; Nike Horns at first PC bloodied; Rebinding DC 16.

Harder

  • APL 12+ veterans: Orthos +4 guards; Typhon starts Phase 1 with Storm Crown; one helper delayed 2 rounds; Eruption on Rebinding fail ×2.

Jailer’s Key. Carries a spike-key. A PC who takes one (action, contested Athletics) gains advantage on the next chain-lock check.

Etna-Hardened. Resistance to fire. Vulnerable to cold and radiant.

Attack. Multiattack: two volcanic mauls +7 to hit, 13 (2d8 + 4) bludgeoning plus 3 (1d6) fire.

Chain Lash (Recharge 5–6). 30-ft line, DC 15 Dex save or 18 (4d8) slashing and restrained by slag-chain (escape DC 15).
