Style: Rescue & Redemption — negotiate, sneak, or fight your way to break a curse.
Win Condition: Reach Nyxantha in the Grotto and use Persephone's Tearstone to sever her shadowfire curse-bond, ending the Wilting Court's rampage without having to slaughter the nymphs.
Description: A tyrant's foremen defiled a sacred spring and clear-cut an ancient grove, and the grieving nymphs of the region banded together into a raiding gang — but their fury is being fed and amplified by a corrupted Lampad who has bound them all in underworld shadowfire.
The Hook: The party meets Elyria in Misthaven, a mist-wreathed tavern between worlds. She begs for help before the Wilting Court's raids escalate into open slaughter on both sides.
The Maguffin — Persephone's Tearstone: A polished garnet stone that can sever an underworld curse-bond when pressed to its source. Full item card on Page 4.

Terrain: Narrow switchback trail, 80×30 ft, boulder cover, one rockslide trigger zone spanning a 20-ft stretch of trail.
Creatures: 3× Nymph Skirmisher (Oread) — CR 3 each, positioned on high ledges (advantage on ranged attacks).
Avoid Combat: DC 15 Persuasion (proving you're not with the tyrant's foremen, e.g. showing the Tearstone or naming Elyria) OR DC 13 Insight/Nature to spot the ambush and call out peacefully before it triggers. Leaving a floral/wine offering grants DC 12 instead.
Rockslide Trigger: If the party advances aggressively or is spotted as hostile, the rockslide fires round 1: all creatures in the 20-ft zone make a DC 14 Dex save or take 3d6 bludgeoning (half on success) and are knocked prone.
Resolution: Peaceful or victorious outcome grants a hint about the meadow's captive-cage layout ahead. Aftermath: short rest available either way.
Terrain: Waterlogged grove, 100×60 ft, mud/water = difficult terrain; three vine-cages hold 3 mortal laborers and the bound Nereid Thalassa.
Creatures: 2× Nymph Skirmisher (Leimniad), 2× Nymph Skirmisher (Meliae) — CR 3 each.
Avoid Combat: DC 15 Persuasion/Performance appealing to the nymphs' grief (invoking Elyria or the Tearstone) causes them to stand down without a fight. Alternatively, DC 13 Stealth to free all captives before the guards notice.
If Alarm Raised: If combat drags past 5 rounds or a guard escapes to warn the Grotto, Encounter 3 begins with Nyxantha already Shadowfire Empowered (see boss card) and no surprise round for the party.
Resolution: Quick/peaceful resolution (≤4 rounds, no alarm) grants a full short rest and Thalassa's aid; a rushed/loud resolution costs the short rest and alerts the Grotto.
Terrain: Underground cavern-oasis, 90×70 ft, central pool, ash-tree stand, stalactite ledges. Each corner holds a "Court Zone" tied to a nymph type: pool (Oceanid — whirlpool), roots (Dryad — snares), embers (Meliae — fire motes), stone (Oread — tremors).
Creatures: Nyxantha (boss) + 2 active Nymph Skirmishers (cycling Naiad/Dryad/Nereid/Oceanid types) present from the start; the rest of the Court (one of every remaining type) act as ambient zone hazards, not full combatants.
Win Condition — Curse-Sever: A creature holding the Tearstone can use an action, while adjacent to Nyxantha, to press it to her if she is at 0 Grief-Bound stacks OR below 25 HP. This instantly ends the curse: Nyxantha and every Wilting Court nymph immediately stop fighting.
Partial Success: If Nyxantha is instead reduced to 0 HP without the Tearstone, the curse still breaks, but the surviving nymphs scatter in raw grief rather than being freed cleanly — a hook for a future session to fully restore the vale.
Scaling: Easier — drop reinforcement cycle to every 3 rounds, remove one Court Zone hazard. Harder — Nyxantha gains a 4th legendary action and Grief-Bound starts at 4 stacks.

A smooth garnet-red stone, warm to the touch. While holding it, you have advantage on Persuasion/Performance checks against creatures bound by grief or dark magic (such as the Wilting Court).
Curse-Sever. As an action, press it to an incapacitated or Grief-Bound (0 stacks) fey to instantly sever any underworld curse-bond, ending magical compulsion. Single use — crumbles to ash after severing one curse.
AC 13 · HP 22 · Non-combatant (Create/Destroy Water 1/day)
Motivation. Wants her sisters' curse broken, not the sisters slain — desperate and pleading throughout.
Secret. She was bound by Nyxantha too but broke free weeks ago; guilt-ridden she didn't act sooner to stop it.
Roleplay Notes. Anxious, tearful, will beg the party not to kill any nymph if combat turns lethal. Gives the Tearstone and a rough map of the pass at the hook.
Use Nymph Skirmisher (Oread) stats, ally, at half HP once recruited
Motivation. Protecting the vale; deeply distrustful of outsiders sent by the tyrant's foremen.
Secret. Knows a hidden tunnel shortcut to the Grotto that bypasses part of the meadow ambush.
Roleplay Notes. Gruff, tests the party's honesty before trusting them; recruited via DC 13 Persuasion after being spared below half HP.
Use Nymph Skirmisher (Nereid) stats, ally, once freed
Motivation. Was captured trying to calm her sisters; wants everyone — nymph and mortal — to survive this.
Secret. Knows Nyxantha's name-of-sorrow, usable once in the finale to force an automatic Grief-Bound stack loss (see Encounter 3).
Roleplay Notes. Gentle and sorrowful; hums softly while healing allies. Freed via DC 12 Sleight of Hand or breaking her cage.
